Welsh
League Structure
As you would have already seen,
there will be restructuring of the Welsh Football pyramid system with the creation of the “Super 10” made up of
the top finishing placed clubs after next season carrying a domestic license. The club supports this new league as it believes
that improvements to standards will only help improve the product of Welsh league football. The club however believes this
should be made up of the top 10 finishing Welsh Premier league clubs are not 8 plus two promoted.
The club has the ambition
of being in the “Super 10” in its first season and sees the clubs set up and structure as a benchmark for many
other clubs. The club would like to take the challenge of competing in the “Super 10” and has a strategy in place
to obtain a domestic license this season and fully supports Darren Ryan in his teams quest to achieve a top 8 Welsh Premier
finish.
There has been much talk of the second tier with the current proposal being made up of two regionalised
leagues, currently the Cyrmu Alliance and Welsh League. At present out of the 8-10 clubs that would be relegated from the
Welsh Premier, the majority would fall into the Cyrmu Alliance. This would have a knock on effect to lower CA clubs, but the
club feels in the current climate this is the best solution of structuring the leagues and that if Newtown were outside of
the Super 10, it would prefer to be playing in a competitive North Mid Wales league which would include many local derbies.
The clubs concern would be how much funding would be available for these clubs to continuing to obtain a domestic license
especially concerns over funding of academies and that along with the other Mid Wales clubs, be seen as a Northern club rather
then being pushed into the Southern league.
In terms of promotion,
the current situation would take the top eligible side (holder of domestic license) from the CA and WL into the new “Super
10” but the club would like to propose a change in promotion and introduce a playoff system so that the North/Mid Wales
clubs would playoff against the South Wales clubs for two places into the Super 10. This would mean that the best 11th
and 12th club would be promoted. The club feels this is a solution to many issues faced by the Welsh FA and takes
into concerns of other clubs.
