Ex Wrexham midfielder signs on eve of season

Former Wrexham midfielder Iwan Cartwright has signed for the Robins on the eve of the new JD Sports Welsh Premier League season.

Cartwright, who turned 21 yesterday, has spent pre-season with the club and has put in a string of fine displays during friendly matches.

Chris Hughes was impressed by what he saw from the youngster and decided he would be an asset to his squad.

He said: "He has played in two or three games and has showed up really well.

"Coming from Wrexham he is a technically good player he has ability and we've been impressed by him during pre-season.

"He is a young lad who we think can develop further and add something to our squad, he is good on in possession with will give is something different.

"He understands that everyone will be fighting for their place and he is keen to do well here."

Cartwright was part of the Wrexham academy for many years and was one of five players to pen a professional contract in 2015.

On his release from the Racecourse ground he signed for Nuneaton and also had a spell at Colwyn Bay last season.

He will wear the number 24 shirt.
