Gaffer planning for next season

Hughes hoping to announce new faces soon

Newtown boss Chris Hughes is hoping to announce new signings in the coming weeks as his preparation for next season continues.

Other clubs have been announcing new signings already, and Hughes is hoping to follow suit soon and to also announce who from last year's squad will remain at the club.

Ryan Kershaw is the only player who has left Latham, with Ryan Sears heading back to Shrewsbury Town where he has signed a new deal.

Callum Roberts, who spent last season at Newtown on loan was released by the Shrews in the summer and Hughes has been in discussions with the left back.

Hughes said: "It is that time of the year where everyone is busy speaking to players ahead of next season.

"It is a waiting game really in terms of getting people in because players are looking at their options.

"Kersh has gone and we wish him all the best, Ryan has gone back to Shrewsbury and Callum is a free agent now and we are in dialogue with regarding next season.

"We are speaking to all the other lads and will have announcements to make in the next week or so.

"We have identified some targets we are looking at and are hopeful of bringing in a few in the next few weeks, ahead of pre-season starting on June 23."

In recent weeks rumours have been linking Hughes with a role away from Latham Park, however he has insisted he is focused on planning for next season with the Robins.

Last summer the Robins lost key players, and Hughes believes that won't be the case again this season.

He added: "We don't want to happen what happened last year with a big overhaul of players.

"I don't think that will happen this time.

"With bringing new people in, as a club we can't offer as much as other clubs, that is why it is a bit of a waiting game and we need to identify the right people and the right fit."
