Lee Stephens Announced as New Reserves Manager

Former Abermule Manager takes on role immediately

Lee StephensNewtown Accountant, Lee Stephens has been selected as the new Reserves Manager at Newtown following the resignation of Jim Sharman a couple of weeks ago. Lee is a Newtown lad which fits the main profile required by the Board as part of their new community strategy. He has experience in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League as Manager of Abermule Reserves last season where his side finished 9th ini the Second Division, the same League in which Newtown Reserves played and finished 5th.

Lee was one of four applicants for the post with two selected for interview, both of whom were compelling candidates, but Lee's experience in Management and commitment to recruit local, young players was uppermost in the Interviewing panel's decision. The Reserves are an important part of Newtown Football Club's strategy for greater community involvement and is intended to cater for players leaving the Club's Academy at 16 and for Youth players who would like to commit to our Club. The Board does however understand that the level of football our Reserves is forced to play at, will see some players wish to move to clubs who are allowed to compete at a higher level.

It is intended that Lee will forge close links with the Youths/College partnership team managed by Gareth Watkins and Colin Love, with the Academy managed by Tim Broome and with the Firsts Management team of Bernie McNally and Carlton Leonard.

All the existing Reserves players are encouraged to speak to Lee about places in the team for this season and last year's Assistant Manager, Marc Salvati took the team for pre-season training last weekend. Currently abroad with his work, Lee will begin arranging pre-season friendlies upon his return with enquiries from other clubs already waiting.

Good luck to Lee and his team in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League this coming season.
