WWtSS tournament at Newtown

We Wear the Same Shirt Event planned

On World Mental Health day (Tuesday 10th October), Newtown Community coach, Sam Morris, announced that he had secured eight teams to enter the Mental Health "We Wear the Same Shirt" tournament he has been planning.

Sam told the Newtown AFC web editor that he had been received entries from all over Wales for the tournament which he has set for Sunday 21st January, 2018 at Griffiths Construction Latham Park, Newtown.

The first ever across Wales tournament was held in Newport, Gwent in June this year which featured the teams taking part in the collaboration between Sport Wales, Welsh Football Trust, Time to Change Wales and the selected football clubs. That tournament was a big success, and now Sam wants to see an even bigger event taking place at Newtown.

9 teams from Newport, Merthyr, Newtown, Welshpool and Wrexham have entered already and with social media now being used to spread the word, it is expected further entries will be received.

The event will be free to all teams and Newtown's Community team will be funding and running the day's activities.

Newtown FC's Club Secretary, Owen Durbridge said, " We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people who participate in our training sessions at Newtown and the initiative shown by young Sam Morris in organising this event on his own has been outstanding, and he has the backing of the whole Board of Directors."
