A Million Love Songs and the Elton John classic I’m Still Standing. But despite missing out on taking the X Factor 2009

Sport Relief Update Robins
Social Club organised two days of events in aid of this year Sport Relief and raised £400 in spite the rain and poor
turn out. Thursday
The fun began on Thursday evening.
There were over 200 balloons to be blown up and who better to blow them up than the youngsters from the Youth Pool League
while waiting for their games those that got involved seem to have a great time Robins Run

Friday 19th saw the Robins Run which consisted of 5 circuits of the Robins home ground which
is just over 1 mile. All were invited to take part and Powys Dance a local community group who use the Clubs
facilities kicked off the fundraising after their class. 34 of them did a circuit making their accumulative miles as approximately
7 miles and donated their class subs to the collection and afterwards enjoyed cakes as a celebration.

5pm Friday The main event started at 5pm with 13 of the Whitestars coming to join in. Mike Jones
the Clubs Chairman came down and started the lads on their way with parents cheering them on in the rain.

Next we had some of the Newtown
Ladies do their mile although they ended up doing 6 circuits as somebody miscounted. While all this was going on outdoors we had a number of things set up in
the club house. We had had hoped to have people playing pool but due to a misunderstanding this was not publicised well. However,
we did have quizzes and competitions which people got involved in and the atmosphere was good all evening.
Some of Newtown Marching Corps
came down to support the event and practiced in the function room as it was so wet out side. They did however did some practice
in the rain.

Saturday 20th
Newtown played Prestatyn
and Lembit Opik was invited by the Social Club to attend. He spent his afternoon in the Sponsors Lounge looked after by Roy
and Kevin and then at half time took the Penalty Challenge against the Newtown Ladies Goal Keeper, Trish Burton, on a very
muddy Robins ground. Picture in County Times. (Unfortunately as I was in the Kitchen cooking I do not have
pictures of this but I did ask Kevin to take some!) The total amount raised was £400.
I
personally want to thank again, all those that got involved and helped out including the Stewards that came down on Friday
in the rain to help out in case we had hundreds turn up. Also Nicky for giving up her Friday night. I would practically like
to thank Alan who was co-opted at the last minute.

The Bras! Throughout the weekend we were also publicising an Event for the Maldyn Harries to raise money for Cancer
Relief, on Friday 2nd at the Maldyn Centre, which involves a Bra collection which is why there were Bras hanging
around the club. This got people talking if nothing else.
