Aberystwyth Town 1-3 Newtown AFC – Reaction
Following our excellent win in the third round of the JD Welsh Cup on Saturday at Aberystwyth, we took the opportunity to have a quick chat with first team manager Chris Hughes to gauge his opinion of the game. Here is what the gaffer had to say:
“I was happy with our performance; we created some good chances throughout and was pleased with our delivery of balls into our opponent’s box. Aaron Williams gave us the lead in the first half with a well taken finish. I was disappointed with the goal we conceded as it came from when we were in possession of the ball. But credit to the lads, we played well in the second half and looked to force the issue in the final 20 minutes with the game going straight to penalties if the scores were still level. We applied pressure and got our rewards with a typical Nick Rushton goal (alive in the box), and it was great to see Nigel Aris wrapping things up in injury time. We are now obviously though to the next round which doesn’t take place until the new year, so we can now concentrate on our forthcoming league games”
Talking about our league games, we asked Chris for his thoughts ahead of the game against Flint Town United this coming weekend:
“We will have one or two players back from injury which is great for a game which we know will be tough. This is the second time we have played Flint this season, having lost against them at home earlier this season. They took an early lead in that game, and they were very difficult to break down. In saying that though, we will approach this game full of confidence and look to maintain our unbeaten run that we are currently on”
We would like to thank Chris for taking the time to talk to us and wish him and the lads all the very best for the game at Flint.
