Meet The Board

Chairman – Howard Ellis

Howard became chairman of the football club in the summer of 2017, taking over the reins from from Elwyn Preece.

Howard has a long association with the football club and had been a steward at the club for many years, before taking up the role as chairman.

Phil Williams – Board Member

Phil is the longest serving member of the board and is currently director of football, working closely with manager Chris Hughes.

He is well known in the town as a retired physics teacher and a supply teacher, community councillor and sheep former.

He joined the board at the end of the first Welsh Premier League season in the early 1990s.

He is involved in the academy and has large knowledge of local football having formerly played for Newtown, Caersws, Mochdre and Abermule.

Barry Gardner – Finance Director

Barry has strong family links to the club, and is a chartered accountant who is also the club’s financial director.

His parents Barbara and Colin are heavily involved in the club, and he has been on the board since 2003.

Dave Mills-Evans – Club Secretary

Dave, father of centre half Kieran, has been on the board for the past couple of years.

Last year he moved to helping out with player administration, and is now the player administration secretary.

Richard Lewis – Board Member

Richard has followed Newtown AFC since the 1990’s when we were competing in the HFS Loans League. He is an architect and director of Hughes Architects who carry out work throughout the local area. Previous projects have included work carried out at Latham Park including our funciton room.

Richard has got an extensive experience of all stages of construction including working on many community projects, such as, at the funding and grant applications stages. He is currently the chairman of the Mid Wales Branch of the Royal Society of Architects in Wales and sits on the national council.

Marie Williams – Board Member

Marie first started watching the Robins when we played in the HFS Loans League, and previously played for Newtown Ladies where she was also player/manager.

Marie is currently the head of the security at the club, she has a SIA badge and is in charge of the stewards at Latham Park on match days.

Tim Bowan – Board Member

Nick Evans – Director of Operations

Nick is no stranger to Newtown having been a lifelong supporter and will now take responsibility for overseeing all things operational at the football club, in a professional manner.

He will be assisting the board to set an ambitious vision for the club, both on and off the field, with clear and defined targets. Strengthening the clubs brand positioning and engagement levels with the local community and businesses will be prioritised.

Nick currently coaches in the Newtown Academy U13’s but is better known as being Managing Director of locally based civil engineering company, EvaBuild. His underlying passion is for placing Mid Wales firmly on the map of Wales.

Having already good knowledge of the club and academy, coupled with his local extensive network, Nick will be a great asset in helping the club reach its future ambitious goals, and placing AFC Newtown at the heart of the community.

Kevin Speake – Director of Football

Kevin’s role as Director of Football will see him take responsibility for every aspect of football at the club.

He will be working closely with the first team management team to ensure we create a strategy that meets the club’s ambitions, driving improved performance on and off the pitch, whilst also laying good foundations to build on for the future.

Kevin will also oversee the academy, an integral part of the club’s future plans, with the intention to improve the standards across all aspects of the academy and to ensure integration of academy players into our 1st team in the future.

Kevin has a successful background, in both football and business, which will bring fresh knowledge, experience and energy that can only help the club move forward.

Football wise he has enjoyed success developing, managing, and coaching at all levels of football and spent several years working with Shrewsbury Town Academy.
