HENRY COWANS – TWO GOAL EUROPEAN HERO

On the eve of the Robins 2nd leg in the Europa Conference League Second Qualifying Round against FC Spartak Trnava, we spoke to Henry Cowans. It is fair to say that Henry has made a great start to the season and has played a major role in all our European games thus far. As well as his excellent all-round contribution, he has also helped himself to two goals, one in the home leg against Havnar Bóltfelag in that memorable win, and one last week against Spartak in Slovakia. We asked him about those goals, and if he had to choose, then which one was his favourite and why:

“It must be the goal against HB, on a personal level it was great to get my first European goal but the importance of the goal for the team on the night was the best part of it. I am proud that it helped us to secure a memorable victory which you could see meant a lot to everybody connected to the club”

That victory against the Faroese club then of course set up our tie in the Second Qualifying Round against FC Spartak Trnava. As mentioned, Henry got on the scoresheet in Slovakia last week, and despite us ultimately going down by 4 goals to 1, he is very optimistic about our chances in the second leg.

“We are not naive enough to think that we face anything but an uphill battle but regardless of the result in Slovakia, the second leg was always going to be a tough game anyway. We are going into the game with a lot of belief that we can turn things around, if we can cut out mistakes and get an early goal then who knows what could happen”

We think that everybody would agree with Henry’s assessment of our chances on Thursday. Looking further ahead, we finally asked Henry about his own personal aims for the domestic season and those for the team as a whole:

“On a personal level, I want to stay fit and enjoy playing as regularly as possible and to a high standard. With regards to the team, we have a fantastic group of players, and I can’t see any reason why we can’t match our achievements from last season or do even better”

We thank Henry for taking the time to talk to us and wish well for the game tomorrow and for the rest of the season.
