Friday night is a trip to Bala as the Robins go up against the Lakesiders in Phase Two of the JD Welsh Premier League.

Last Saturday was a day to remember as the reds secured their first win in the phase two campaign after a dramatic 3-2 win over Caernarfon Town after being 1-2 down.

The Newtown boys hope to keep the winning momentum going when they travel to Bala in which our opponents have not played a single game in phase two yet.

Bala’s last competitive match was on January 26th in the fourth round of the Welsh Cup when they defeated Haverfordwest County, 0-4.

Before kick-off, Newtown are five points ahead of the Lakesiders in 4th place but Bala have three games in hand over the Robins.

Craig Williams on Bala’s lack of game time

“They will be desperate to get out there as they haven’t played for a while but we have match fitness in our legs having played regularly of late, so hopefully that pays off when we kick off.”

Williams on Bala’s top goal scorer Steve Tames

“He is having a great season and we need to be wary of him but they have threats in other areas too that we need to be mindful of. We will have a game plan and try and stick to it and hopefully we can grab the 3 points.”

Williams’ thoughts ahead of the match itself

“This is a very important match in terms of our season, we want to finish as high in the table as possible and be competitive in every single match. Points are crucial at this stage of the season so a very important game for both teams.

“We have had team spirit and resilience for a number of seasons here at Newtown and that was another great example of that last week. We will use that togetherness we have to push on for the remaining games of the season.”

And Williams on that crazy corner goal

“It’s always nice to score, no matter how they go in! My first corner went straight out of play so it was nice for the next one to end up in the back of the net!”
