After last weekend’s emphatic 4-2 win at home to Denbigh Town, Newtown are making the 120-mile round trip to Buckley Town on Friday night looking to make it four wins in a row in all competitions.
Earlier this season, Nathan Leonard’s side beat Buckley 3-2 to advance in the Welsh League Cup, Steffan Jones, Devon Torry and Ollie Sharp were on the scoresheet that day. Another win will leave the Robins level on points with the top three ahead of their respective fixtures.
The Opposition
Buckley Town – 8th
Asa Hamilton’s side are unbeaten in the league in four games but have only kept one clean sheet this season so far, which could be something Newtown look to exploit having scored nine goals in their last two. Buckley finished last season in fifth and will be hoping to replicate that feat. The hosts are also off the back of a 2-1 win against local rivals Mold Alex last weekend.
Player to Watch – Brad Knight
The frontman for the Claymen has seven goals in all competitions this campaign. A hat-trick against Holyhead Hotspur in gameweek 7 being a highlight, where he also picked up an assist. The 21-year-old Englishman came through the ranks at Cefn Druids before joining Buckley Town on a free transfer from Airbus UK last summer.
Last Time Out
Newtown got off to a flyer leading 3-0 at half-time against Denbigh Town at Latham Park, Greg Draper scoring inside ten minutes. The visitors got two goals in the second half but they proved to be consolations as Draper sealed a brace in the 89th minute to seal the win for Newtown. Other goals came from Jamie Hyne and Aidan McCann. The three points closed the gap on the leaders after Holywell drew at home to Rhyl.
Team News
JoJo Harries is back after serving his suspension. New signing, Simon Spender will be looking to start after making his debut from the bench. Nathan Leonard has the whole squad up for selection.
