Match Preview – Denbigh Town

It’s a clash between two promotion chasing teams this weekend at Latham Park. Newtown take on Denbigh Town, who sit only one place below them in the Cymru North. Unbeaten in their last five in the league, the visitors will be looking to upset the Robins’ strong start to the campaign, only losing out to 3^rd place Llandudno.

The Opposition

Denbigh Town – 5th

Denbigh have scored plenty of goals in the opening seven games of the season, so an entertaining affair is expected; last time out in the league, Town won 5-1 at home to Flint Mountain. In midweek, the away side lost a marathon penalty shootout 11-10 against Porthmadog to be knocked out of the Welsh Cup after their fixture at the weekend was abandoned while the Reds were 4-1 up.

Player to Watch – Matthew Worrall

The Reds’ striker has five goals in ten appearances this season, not including the brace he scored in last weekend’s abandoned fixture. In that game, Worrall also provided two assists and will be looking to cause the same damage this weekend.

Last Time Out

Newtown got back to winning ways last weekend with a resounding 5-2 victory on the road at Rhyl. Taz Hollinshead scored a double moving the Robins up to fourth. The other goals came from Robbie Evans, Greg Draper and Devon Torry.

On Tuesday, manager, Nathan Leonard’s side progressed in the Central Wales Cup, beating Berriew 6-0 at Latham Park. Braces from Jamie Hyne and Alfie Davies saw the Robins into the hat for the next round.

Team News

Newtown have a full-strength squad at their disposal, barring JoJo Harries who serves the final game of his suspension. New signing, Simon Spender is set to feature in the squad for the first time also.
