NEWTOWN AFC LAUNCH GIRLS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Newtown AFC is delighted to announce the launch of a new girls only scholarship programme to begin in September 2024.

The new sport & education programme will again be  carried out in partnership with NPTC Newtown College, further strengthening our relationship with them.  The programme will also add to our current women’s and girls pathway, adding a full time training provision for talented female players in the area.  The scholarship will allow players to still play for their current clubs whilst training and playing under to guidance of Newtown AFC technical staff Monday – Friday.

‘NPTC Group of Colleges are delighted to support the development of a girls football academy in collaboration with Newtown AFC. The partnership will boost the development of the women’s game in the area and offer a pathway for our female players to continue and develop past the age of 16.’ Barry Roberts – Head of School Sport and Public Services.

‘We’re really pleased to be able to offer talented girls in Mid Wales and beyond the opportunity to access a full time football programme alongside their studies, the first ever course of its kind Powys.  The programme adds another layer to our ever expanding girls pathway and pushes us closer to achieving our ultimate aim of adding a Newtown AFC women’s team within the next two years.’  Kevin Speake – Newtown AFC Director of Football.

The course will allow the girls to study a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity, the equivalent of 3 A levels which will allow them to access every top sports university in the UK and top colleges in the USA if they have ambitions to further their development abroad.
