Newtown Continue Top 6 Charge

Newtown reached the 30 point mark as the beat a stubborn Pontypridd side at Latham Park

The Robins started the brightest with Aaron Williams heading over from a Ryan Sears right wing cross and Shane Sutton could only fire over when we’ll placed but were soon in front just before the half hour mark when Sears climbed the heights to head home a Louis Robles cross.

The Robins doubled their advantage 6 minutes into the second half when Williams cut inside before firing into Ratcliffe’s top corner for his 13 league strike

Ratcliffe kept the visitors in the game saving well from Williams and Robles but the visitors got back in the game when Keston Davies effort was adjusted to have cross the line to set up a frantic finish

Shane Sutton marshalled the Robins backline to keep Ponty at bay and the points were secured when substitute Zeli Ismail beat two players to race clear and fire home.

Newtown were cheered on by mascots from the Girls Huddle and Boys Mini and Junior Robins who meet weekly at Latham Park

The Robins are back in action as the welcome Colwyn Bay for another tough test but with scores going the Robins way this evening another win would get the Robins close to securing top 6.
