PREVIEW: WILLIAMS LOOKING TO BUILD

The Robins were finally up-and-running in our last outing as we secured our first victory of the season courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over Cardiff Met University.

An early opener from Ryan Sears was added to just past the half-hour mark by Aaron Williams and although our opponents pulled a goal back just before the break, we managed to hold on to our lead to chalk up a much-needed win.

“Last week’s win was massive for us as a team,” admitted Williams. “We haven’t started the season in the way we planned and our performances have been well below the standards that the coaching staff want to see and what us as players expect.

“We didn’t play our best football against Cardiff Met, but we showed that we can mix our game up as a team and fight and battle to achieve the points.

“As a striker, it’s always nice to get amongst the goals as early as possible in the season and luckily I’ve managed to do that. More importantly, my goal was enough to get us over the line last weekend and get those first three points in the bag.

“The whole team battled well and it was a deserved victory for us.

“Now we have to be able to take this battling qualities into our trip to Haverfordwest County on Saturday.

“It’s always a tough place to go and the travelling isn’t ideal, but we have prepared well for it and we go there with a bit more of a spring in our step.

“It’s important to keep the momentum if we want to get to where we want to be by Christmas.

“As a team we still feel hurt from the final game of last season against Haverfordwest and we’ll be doing all we can to put that right this weekend.”
