Newtown AFC are delighted to welcome the new signing of Sam Barnes from Cymru Alliance side Bangor City.
Barnes becomes the Robin’s second signing of the January transfer window alongside George Hughes who arrived at the beginning of the month on-loan from Shrewsbury Town.
It is believed a number of clubs were interested in adding Barnes to their squad but it was Newtown that the former Citizen’s captain put his finger on.
Sam Barnes joins Newtown.
A number of clubs have come in for Barnesy in the January window. He has decided to have a crack at the WPL with the Robins. We wish him well and thank him for leaving in all on the field when wearing the Bangor blue.

Barnes is a no nonsense central defender who is known for portraying real leadership. Some of that was shown when the defender captained fellow Welsh side Colwyn Bay throughout last season.
Our new addition has a CV that includes playing for English giants Liverpool, Stockport County, Marine and Northwich Victoria.
Newtown’s next game on the calendar sees Welsh Premier League title contenders, Connah’s Quay, visit Latham Park on Saturday (February 2nd) where it could be Barnes’ first game in a Robin’s shirt.
Welcome to the Robins Sam! 👍
