Match Report – Newtown AFC 7-0 Ffostrasol Wanderers FC

Newtown progressed to the semi-finals of the CWFA Senior Cup with an impressive 7–0 win over Ffostrasol Wanderers at Latham Park.

The game began with an early setback for the Robins as centre-back Tom Pritchard was forced off through injury. Ollie Sharp came on to replace him and settled in confidently at the heart of the defence.

Despite the early disruption, Newtown started strongly and took the lead after just eight minutes. Devon Torry opened the scoring with a calm finish into the bottom-right corner following a well-constructed move.

The lead was doubled in the 17th minute when Charlie Smith delivered an excellent whipped ball into the box. The Ffostrasol goalkeeper failed to deal with it, and Louis Jacobs reacted quickest to steer home.

Newtown continued to dictate play and added a third in the 42nd minute. Harri Howells won a free kick on the edge of the area after driving forward well, and from the resulting set piece Jacobs showed superb technique to guide the ball under the wall and into the bottom-right corner.

Just before half-time, captain Jamie Hyne made it 4–0. Cuba Cline threaded a perfectly weighted through ball in behind, and Hyne produced a clever sliding finish into the bottom-left corner.

The second half began with Newtown still in full control. In the 53rd minute, Torry struck again, finding the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box to extend the advantage.

Torry then completed his first senior hat-trick ten minutes from time. After excellent work from Jacobs — who beat his man down the right and squared unselfishly across goal — Torry tapped in from close range.

Newtown added their seventh in the 87th minute through substitute Tom Jones, who had replaced Arnie Roberts earlier in the second half. Jones drove at the full-back, cut inside well, then cut back, and finished confidently into the bottom-left corner.

Although several other chances went narrowly wide throughout the match, Newtown’s attacking display was dominant from start to finish, with a number of academy players impressing on the senior stage.

The Robins now look ahead to their next league fixture away at Guilsfield, along with a well-earned place in the semi-finals of the competition.
