Newtown AFC head into the festive fixture looking to end a run of three league games without a win, while crucially maintaining their unbeaten home record at Latham Park. The Robins have turned their home ground into a difficult place to visit this season, and that resilience will be key once again.
Visitors Airbus UK Broughton FC arrive in a similar vein, having failed to win their last two league outings. With both sides currently locked on 33 points in the Cymru North, the encounter promises to be a tightly contested affair, though Airbus hold a slight edge with a game in hand over Newtown AFC.
One of the standout performers this season has been George Peers, who has enjoyed a remarkable campaign for Airbus. With 13 league goals to his name, he is joint top scorer in the division and already proved his threat earlier in the season with a brace against the Robins.
Newtown will look to their own attacking options, with Jamie Hyne continuing to impress. The forward currently sits on nine league goals and has previous experience of finding the net against Airbus, having scored against them last season while at Guilsfield.
At the back, captain Kieran Mills Evans has an excellent personal record against Airbus, contributing three goals and one assist across previous meetings — a notable return for a defender and one that underlines his influence at both ends of the pitch.
The reverse fixture earlier in the campaign was one of the defining moments of Newtown’s season. Airbus stormed into an early 2–0 lead, and the contest looked all but settled. However, the Robins responded with renewed belief in the second half, sparked by an early goal from Robbie Evans. Deep into stoppage time, a dramatic equaliser from Steff Jones ensured a memorable comeback and a moment that seemed to ignite the young Newtown squad moving forward.
From everyone involved at Newtown AFC, we would like to wish supporters, players, and staff a very Merry Christmas and hope everyone has enjoyed the festive period so far. With a home crowd behind them, the Robins will be aiming to cap it off with three points and make the occasion even more special at Latham Park.
