Match Preview – Llandudno (H) – Nathaniel MG Cup

Newtown AFC face Llandudno in the Nathaniel MG Cup quarter-finals, with kick-off at 7:45pm at Latham Park.

The Robins reached this stage after a memorable win over Cymru Premier side Bala Town, while Llandudno progressed thanks to a 3-1 victory over Denbigh Town in the previous round.

Dave Jones and Cuba Cline both featured in last season’s Nathaniel MG Cup Final for Aberystwyth Town.

Devon Torry scored the winning penalty against Cardiff City’s U21s to send Aberystwyth to that final, but didn’t feature as he was back in Newtown colours after being recalled from his loan spell in the January.

This will be the third meeting between the sides this season. The Robins edged the first encounter on penalties in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup, before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the league.

Llandudno come into this game in strong form, unbeaten in eight matches and fresh off an emphatic 5-0 win over Airbus. Harvey Bennett is the standout danger man for the visitors, with 12 goal contributions already this campaign.

Newtown will need to be at their best, but can take confidence from their earlier cup success against Llandudno.

Get down to Latham Park and support the boys under the lights!
